Good day all, welcome yet again to my class blog and I couldn't be more gratitude for your support. Before going further into today's leadership insight. It made me realise upon writting this blog of "How could I miss out on Hitler when talking about leadership?" I mean both of them shares a lot in relativity and commonness. Hence, I'm gonna share a little on Hitler's leadership traits.

Adolf Hitler was the head and leader of Nazi Germany who started the World War II. He was most known for his for his central leadership role in the rise of fascism in Europe, World War II and The Holocaust. Although despised through the world, he was one of the greatest leader of all time. After becoming the chancellor of Germany in 1933, he was responsible for one of the greatest economic and military expansion the world has ever seen. He successfully invaded more than 10 countries with his brilliant strategy and meticulous planning. His oratory skills, propaganda and planning made him a leader par excellence.

Leadership Qualities

i) Ability to Influence People

He had the skill of influencing the minds of his followers and was adept at using propaganda to bring the entire nation under his control. He used the media to influence the minds of people to advance his cause. He understood the power it had on people and utilized it maximally and targeted groups rather than individuals. He was knowledgeable in influencing the way people thought, acted, and behaved by using regular propaganda to get his message across and it worked very well for him. It was easy for Hitler to endear himself to people especially those who worked closely with him so much so that they could go to the extremes in order to please him.

- One of his closest associates known as Joseph Goebbels committed suicide along with his wife and six children a day after Hitler died. Joseph was appointed and served as Chancellor for just one day. Hitler had such a grip on the emotions of people which made them submit easily to his whims and caprices. Hitler also had great oratory skills and was well educated. This enabled him penetrate into the minds of people to sway their minds. He used his speaking skills to appeal to the patriotic zeal of Germans by promising to free them freedom from the Treaty of Versailles.

- Hitler was also a visionary leader and because of this, he was able to influence several people. People are generally attracted to leaders who have a clear mission, vision and sense of purpose. He was able to convince others to follow his philosophy and ideas. It was also said that he was a very+ organized person and his desire to make Germany a great nation made it easier for him to influence them. His efforts to make good his promises of restoring stability and economic security to the country were a major factor responsible for his increasing sphere of influence. He took great advantage of the circumstances created by World War I and the need his people had for security. 

ii) Persuasive Skills

Hitler's persuasive skill was used in influencing the German people. It was the skill which enabled him to advance his ambition in the Nazi party and gather a lot of support to himself. His persuasive skill used the method of treating Germans as a group and not as individuals. He was of the view that "the masses had limited intelligence and had the ability to forget easily." In order to counter this, he suggested that "propaganda should be limited to very few points that must be harped upon in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand from your slogan." He added that "you must endeavor not to sacrifice this slogan by attempting to focus on many other things, the effect will fade because the crowds are unable to understand or retain information adequately." 

iii) Ability to understand Human Nature

He had an ability to understand how human nature works and he used it to a great advantage. Through this way, he was able to move the whole nation to follow him. He had been able to study the thought process of his people and their inclinations. This made him a very effective and intelligent leader. Any leader that will succeed must be able to understand a thing or two about the nature of man without which it would be difficult to move them to follow him.

iv) Ability to Strategise

A leader's ability to strategize helps them become successful in leadership. Hitler was an excellent strategist having stumbled on his father's war books which he studied dedicatedly. He prepared and set out early to fulfill his ambition. We can observe the following from his life and rise to power.

1.         He strategized to take power politically and not forcefully at the beginning.

2.         He transformed the Workers Party into a political party and became its Chairman.

3.         He ran for election severally and eventually became Chancellor of Germany.

4.         He was also a brilliant war strategist and this enabled him lead Germany in war.

I guess I'll stop here as there will be no end if I keep on continue as there's so much of his leadership qualities of which example can be taken by aspiring leaders nowadays. Hope u enjoyed reading on it and once again, thanks for supporting my class blog, especially mine.

Good day fellow readers, as enthusiast I am when I read through other blog, the same feeling of being enthusiast I hope u guys will have as u scroll down catching a glimpse of what I have in line today.
Well, I'm gonna share a bit or two on a spiritual leader, Dalai Lama. He is a democratic and servant leader for his country of Tibet and Buddhism.

Before going a little deep into his leadership style, let us look into his background. Dalai Lama is a title given to spiritual leaders of the Tibetan people. They are part of the Gelug or "Yellow Hat" school of Tibetan Buddhism, the newest of the schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dalai Lama title was created by Altan Khan, the Prince of Shunyi, granted by Ming Dynasty in 1578. The 14th and current Dalai Lama is Tenzin Gyatso. The Dalai Lama is considered to be the successor in a line of tulkus (living Buddhas, masters) who are believed to be incarnations of Avalokiteśvara, a Bodhisattva of Compassion. The name is a combination of the Mongolic word dalai meaning "ocean" or "big" coming from Mongolian title Dalaiyin qan, translated as 'Gyatso' in Tibetan) and the Tibetan word means "master, guru".

Type of Leadership

The Dalai Lama is a democratic and servant leader for his country of Tibet and Buddhism. He is described as very charismatic and peaceful. He serves his country by trying to resolve the tensions with China for the future of the culture and heritage of Tibet with traits of peace, compassion and wisdom. He is democratic in the way he wishes for Tibet to become a self-governing democratic country and listens to the people of Tibet. He teaches others the way of self-enlightenment to live life with peace, happiness and compassion. Instead of fighting China, the Dalai Lama is valued centred and is peaceful as a result. The Dalai Lama’s way of leadership is very effective for its purpose of peace with no conflicts, his proposals are effective for the future of Tibet, his public image around the world is very positive and his people are happy.

Leadership qualities the Dalai Lama displays

1. Principle centred

When he was exiled from Tibet by the Chinese, as leader of Tibet he didn’t fight but proposed peaceful solutions for the future of his country and it’s relations to China. His peaceful principles are also seen with relations with other religions and not conflict.

The Dalai Lama lives by three commitments: the promotion of basic human values or secular ethics in the interest of human happiness, the fostering of inter-religious harmony and the welfare of the Tibetan people, focusing on the survival of their identity, culture and religion.

-“I believe that the purpose of life is to be happy.  From the moment of birth, every human being wants happiness and does not want suffering.  Neither social conditioning nor education nor ideology affect this.  From the very core of our being, we simply desire contentment.  I don’t know whether the universe, with its countless galaxies, stars and planets, has a deeper meaning or not, but at the very least, it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of making a happy life for ourselves.  Therefore, it is important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness.”- Dalai Lama

2. Compassionate

As the Dalai Lama he teaches Tibetan Buddhism and talks about the importance of compassion as the source of a happy life. The Dalai Lama is said to be a reincarnation of the being of compassion. He feels compassion towards his people in Tibet and helps his people politically as much as he can. The Dalai Lama encourages compassion towards animals and trying to reduce the amount humans consume them. The Dalai Lama urges respect, compassion, and full human rights for all, including homosexuals. He is against abortion as it is killing life but feels for those who can’t afford to have babies.

3. Empowering

The Dalai Lama is the leader of the Tibetan spiritual world and as a result he empowers all in his religion with his acts of justice, peace and wisdom. Many people look up to the Dalai Lama as a role model with his ways. With his talks about how to live life with happiness, peace and compassion, he encourages a lot of people around the world to be peaceful with thy fellow-man. Teaches others life values in many of his teachings. Empowers his Tibetan people with his diplomacy in trying to free Tibet with his peaceful ways giving great honor to their country." Tran, J. All said and done, these are just some of the type leadership qualities Dalai Lama possess as he intends to build a compassionate world with compassionate people.    Good day fellow readers! Welcome back to my class blog especially mine...For this round of leadership insight, I would like to narrate on Nelson Mandela, on of the well-known leaders around the world with specific to his fight against apartheid. You may have notice that being from a freelance blogger on my experience sailing around the seven seas, why have I been blabbering about leaders all of a sudden? Well that's a good question...First and foremost, it's part of my class assignment and secondly, to be honest even I'm learning from the insight that I'm sharing regarding their background as well as leadership qualities. If u guys (who knows) aspire to become a good leader as well as getting to know of the aforementioned leaders of the past, I hope that my blog would be of great help...

   To start with, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist, who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalized racism and fostering racial reconciliation.

   Becoming a great leader is not about making public appearances and memorizing speeches. It is about leaving a mark on the world by displaying important qualities and giving followers a better path in life. Likewise, Mandela’s qualities and life achievements have indeed changed the heart of many not only in his country, but also around the world. With his presence, a new and better world was created.

Mandela’s Qualities As a Leader

As previously mentioned, Mandela realized his dream for his people with his remarkable leadership style. So, how he did it? Here are two of his distinguished qualities:

i) He embraces the ethical.

As the first black president of South Africa, Mandela showed strong ethical values when leading his people by constantly guiding them to keep the center of attention before they cat and to avoid all violence. While fighting against apartheid, he established a utilitarianism leadership style by soldiering ahead, as he had the morals and values to continue fighting. He was then described as a freedom fighter and hero due to his perseverance until he became the head of the country. His traits of responsibility and morality towards his followers were embraced through his honesty.

ii) He has highly effective communication skills.

When facing arguments, challenges and defenses, Mandela anticipated his opponents to effectually communicate his responses based upon the issues brought forth. Communication was vital to his leadership success, allowing him to coordinate with his followers effectively by explaining to them the plan to fight for a better nation.

Leadership Style

Mandela embraces the following set of characteristics when it comes to his leadership style.

i) Charismatic

During the 20th century, Mandela became a most influential figure who led the fight against the apartheid in South Africa. As the first black president of the country, his enthusiastic motive succeeded in attaining freedom by being charismatic. This practice was alleged to be very captivating and successful, where he held strong emotional reactions towards his followers, which built trust between him and his African National Congress (ANC) followers during his incarceration of many years. In fact, this gave them a strong belief to continue their fight and pledge willing obedience to him.

ii) Transformational

As an influential leader, Mandela was able to lead his country to nearly-liberated from prejudice. As a significant leader, he elevated his followers’ consciousness by appealing to their higher values and ideals, even encouraging many to educate themselves, as it would be the key to success. In 1952, Mandela opened the first African legal practice together with his partner, Oliver Tambo, where he was the volunteer-in-chief of the campaign, traveling across the country to raise people’s awareness and organize confrontation to prejudiced regulation. Also, he succeeded in promoting the Freedom Charter that was also adopted by the ANC.

iii) Inspirational.

While Mandela was the leader of the Congress, he inspired his people by helping them understand the values and importance of his visions. He encouraged them to develop their own understanding of what is important for the country, like the fight for equality by eliminating racial discrimination. This inspiring leadership has contributed to helping the country with overcoming the apartheid and developing it into a stable modern democracy. In his speeches while traveling every part of the country, he inspired and convinced people, adding that he could do something to overcome the apartheid confidently. At the same time, he also warned the people not to be overwhelmed by the ruling class and not to strike back, physically or verbally, no matter the hassle was.

All said and done, I guess it would suffice for this time as there have been a lot of leadership styles and qualities Nelson Mandela possess if I keep on writing.    Good day fellow readers, once again welcoming with open arms to my class blog (especially the one with my label)! This time round, I'm gonna share one or two bits of leadership qualities portrayed by a peson who is well know the people of the States of America not just because of his appearance on the dollar but also for his accomplishments as a transformational leader. He's none other than (waaitt...for itt) Abraham Lincoln.

   Most of the leaders who surround us lead their companies and businesses, day after day, in an anonymous and silent way. Other people have or have had a major influence on many people because of their notoriousness: they are “worldwide” leaders, as was the case of such a legendary man as Abraham Lincoln. Having a look at the 16th American president, we can work some leadership lessons.

   Before going further into his leadership style, let me just glimpse through of his background. Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War, its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, paved the way for the abolition of slavery, strengthened the federal government and modernized the economy.

   His greatest achievement was that he led the United States to ultimately defeat the Confederacy, and following his famous Emancipation Proclamation, he enacted measures to abolish slavery. Lincoln was correct in supporting the Union, which opposed slavery. He did not defend the Confederacy and the people supporting slavery.

  It’s a fact that Lincoln was a skillful and admirable leader. After all, if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have been able to defeat the generals of the Confederate States and reunite the country. With reference from Joseph Chris article on Lincoln, I would like to borrow some of his extract to further reinforce all the points listed…

1.       

      1. He knew how to handle his emotions.

    One of the most difficult parts of being a leader is knowing how to properly manage your emotions properly without becoming a jaded. Many people find it hard to succeed in this endeavor, Lincoln, however, learned to handle his emotions. Like any human being, he had intense feelings every now and then, but he didn’t let these get in the way of his work. Historians have discovered that, whenever he got angry at someone, he expressed his feelings in a letter but didn’t mail it. As a result, he was able to release his anger and feel better without hurting the other party. During the times when he couldn’t control his temper and ended up lashing out at someone, he immediately sent the person a letter or made a kind gesture to show that he wasn’t harboring any ill feelings.

   Perhaps one of the best examples of Lincoln’s emotional intelligence was his decision to appoint Salmon Chase as his treasury secretary. Chase was one of his top competitors and was fervently eying the presidential seat, and he undermined Lincoln whenever he had the chance. But Lincoln saw that Chase was good at his job, so he allowed him to remain as treasury secretary instead of giving over to his personal feelings and removing him from his post.

 2.   He shouldered the responsibility for mistakes but shared his accomplishments with others.

   As the president of the United States, Lincoln could have easily passed on the blame to his generals and cabinet members whenever something went wrong. But this did not happen; instead of blaming other people, Lincoln acknowledged his mistake and apologized to everyone. This even happened when the blunder was made by his staff members and not personally by him. Rather than let them face all the backlash on their own, Lincoln stood up with them and took responsibility for his subordinates’ mistakes.

3. He mastered the art of good communication.

   Many world leaders are used to having people listen when they speak. But Lincoln understood that good leadership wasn’t a one-sided affair, so he made it a point to listen to everyone who had something to say. This created a positive culture that allowed his cabinet members to speak their mind, without fearing that they’ll get ridiculed or told to shut up. As a result, even if Lincoln didn’t actually use their ideas or follow their suggestions, they still felt that they’ve been heard and have contributed something to the team.

 4. He focused on his goals.

   Lincoln’s objectives (e.g. to end slavery and unite the entire country) were almost impossible to achieve, but he didn’t give up. When some people approached him and said that he might have to compromise on the abolition of slavery, he didn’t listen to their advice. Lesser leaders would have wavered and agreed that ending years of slavery was too difficult, but Lincoln held his ground and pushed forward. These are the things that all leaders should have: the ability to stay focused on what they want to achieve and the unwavering belief that they will one day accomplish their goals.

   Welcome back to our class blog fellow readers! After quite a hiatus, me and my mates are back with more stories to be told... Well this time round will be uncovering on great leaders of past and present with their respective yet effective in contributing to society leadership style.

    Before going on with it, there's just one question that seems to wander in our thoughts when the word leadership is uttered. "How to define leadership?" Well, leadership is a process whereby an individual influence a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Generally people mistake leadership for characteristics or a trait that reside within a person but it's actually a process that comes with experience as well as selfless thoughts.

    This time round, I'm gonna share a bit or two on Mahatma Gandhi, one of the pioneer role model in exhibiting his leadership qualities. Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule. Employing nonviolent civil disobedience, he led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. 

    Gandhi famously led Indians in challenging the British-imposed salt tax with the 400 km Dandi Salt March in 1930, and later in calling for the British to Quit India in 1942. He was imprisoned for many years, upon many occasions, in both South Africa and India. He lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn hand-spun on a charkha. He ate simple vegetarian food, and also undertook long fasts as a means of both self-purification and political protest. 

    Eschewing the official celebration of independence in Delhi, Gandhi undertook several fasts unto death to stop religious violence that broke free in India after achieving independence. The last of these, undertaken on 12 January 1948 when he was 78 had an indirect goal of pressuring India to pay out some cash assets owed to Pakistan. Some Indians thought Gandhi was accommodating. Among them was Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist, who assassinated Gandhi on 30 January 1948 by firing three bullets into his chest. Yet, his influence still lives till today reminding people of how chaotic an environment can be with religious violence as he continues to pursuit peace among all races.

    There are specific characteristics a person must show in order to be a transformational leader, and Gandhi possessed them.  “Transformational leaders are inspirational, trustworthy, and charismatic role models who lead by example” according to “The Pachamama Alliance”. They are those who inspire team members to give their best, which greatly motivates them, and increases the chances of succeeding. Gandhi led his followers greatly by example, and being humble: by living in poor conditions, just like millions of people in India. They could relate to him, and this inspired them to give their best effort in order to make a difference.

    A transformational leader makes other people feel confident and powerful, which wasn’t the case of the Indians, since they were under the rule of the British. Gandhi empowered all these people to believe in themselves and feel influential in the change they were trying to create. India’s independence couldn’t have happened with one person; everyone had to be a part of it. Gandhi encouraged them to believe in themselves in order to cause this great change in their country.

    I can just go on and on keep writing about Gandhi itself shows the immense ability to influence others that he had in him. Lucky Traveller 5

   Welcome back to our class blog fellow reader! I am gonna share a little of all the beautiful off shore vessels encountered when calling into port Aberdeen, Scotland. It iswide-regarded as the mother of all off-shore berths as thousands of offshore vessel calling into port for bunkers and other facilities provided. The large increase in harbor traffic reflects the upsurge in North Sea acitivity with special reference to oil drilling and exploration continues at a pace with significant numbers of support vessels required to service those endeavours.

   To be honest, being in one of Asia’s top offshore provider, was quite amazed by the size as well as deign of offshore vessels roaming in and out of Aberdeen Pocra Quay. That is truly the time I realized that we should never assume to be the best as the list never ends.

   Lemme walk you guys through a selection of fleet that I endeared the most!

And last my vessel, Tegle…can never miss this beast out, despite having a Singapore registered flag, it’s well versed in Europe due to previous merits of established work completion

   Those are just a few compared to all the other vessel photograph I have taken. That shows how many offshore vessels come into this port daily. Am truly fascinated by the architectural aspect of all these vessel and god speed, could the design of this vessels get any better?    Good afternoon everyone. Am amazed by the warm reception my class blog have received. It  turns out we have a lot of readers switching to our blog to read up on our experience ranging from around the world. Truly surprised yet humbly expressing gratitude for your support. This time round, am gonna talk about my time spent at Hyundai Heavy Industry (HHI) yard Ulsan, Korea. The name speaks for itself, this yard is no ordinary building gigantic floating platform as well range of ships being fabricated and assembled here itself.

Allow me to briefly give an insight of what I have witnessed here during my internship at sea.

First and foremost, Hyundai very own crane barge will be used to lift all shell plating for assembling as well as lifting other parts of ship

As you can see here, they have already fabricated certain parts of the ship with just assembling it left (Observed in pic is the amidship part of a bulk carrier). Could feel all alike a ship-birth place!

Extra additional stringer plating is brought over by sea via propelling barge to the assembly scene for convenience purpose.

First lift by the gigantic crane as observed from my ship’s bow. As per plan they will lift the upper hull first and align it in line with the bottom structure located  below before combining it

All these were meant to be seen in a discovery channel but I’m watching it live from my ship!

This is how it looks like when a part of the hull is combined, an extensive welding work will follow thereafter before another wave of combining other parts are carried out. Amazing isn’t it?

Lucky Traveller 3

   Good day fellow bloggers and blog readers! I would like to express deepest gratitude to all whom are reading my class blog especially mine. Haha…I have been sharing of the places I have visited during my internship at sea and today will add to the list of one particular place which I have fallen in love with. It’s an island first of all and it’s a Spanish conquistadore as in ruled by Spanish before. Any bells ringing? It’s the Islas de Canarias commonly referred to as Canary Island, located off coast of northwestern Africa.

   Well, I was lucky that the ship berthed alongside cruise terminal (nearest place to the city, saving the energy and time to walk) for almost three weeks for some repairs. Oh boy! Certainly I did put the situation to my own good use by taking time to explore the island as much as I could. These are the places I have visited during my stay there.

         

   I’m really hungry now so I’m gonna start with the buffet that I had just by the beautiful beach, Playa Las Canteras. Reasonable price and totally worth every penny.

Next up, lemme share some insight on Playa Las Canteras beach. Overlooking the beautiful ocean, two hotels, AC Hotel Gran Canaria and Hotel Cristina Las Palmas, both comes with an endorsement from Spain-Gran

canaria and are the perfect setting for a holiday in this cosmopolitan city. This area also boasts the city’s biggest shopping centre, Las Arenas with a wide range of shops, a mouth-watering selection of restaurants and snack-bars as well as a multi-screen cinema.

It just makes me wanna go to that place again looking at the pictures itself.

Think you have gotten fed up of beach, then think again. Next up is Playa de Laja of which it ‘s unique because of his grey sand. Not lying over here (see pic). 

  

Castillo de la Luz is next up on the list. This well-preserved fortress has been restored in 1998 and serves today as a cultural and exhibition center for national and international events.

Trust me, this is the first historical facet that I entered not feeling bored at all

   Hope that by looking into my experience at Canary Island , it will further encourage you to explore this place one day.
